Several volunteers gathered near the Tiki Hut Bar on Coligny Beach on Hilton Head Island June 11. They leaned in close to hear Sea Turtle Patrol volunteer Cindy Green over the live music and hordes of beachgoers.
“Who is the oldest visitor to our island?” Green asked.
The children in the group gave an enthusiastic response: “Sea turtles!”
“That’s right,” Green said. “Loggerheads first came to Hilton Head Island about 80 million years ago.”
